Johannesberg, South Africa
I am interested in tracing my maternal grandfather’s origins.
My mother was born Joan GEE on 20 April 1921, in Cape Town South Africa, to Ernest William GEE and Grace Irene / Irene Grace VIGNE. Her older siblings, all born in SA, were: Irene b 1919 I think, Fred and John. Fred and John were schooled in Rugby, England and John lived in the south of England all his married life.
Apparently Ernest did something which upset his father terribly and he was “banished to South Africa”. He married my grandmother who came from the Barkley East district near Kimberley. She died when my mother was 6. Ernest then married a younger woman named Ranier Walker who I think originally came from the Midlands in England. In the 1970s or 1980s, it emerged that Ernest had had an illegitimate daughter, probably before he married my grandmother.
I would be very interested to hear whether Ernest is a branch of your GEE family tree and whether anyone can give me any further information. The details I have given may well be inaccurate as I am recalling stories I heard as a child. My mother, Joan passed away 22 years ago, her brothers died many years before she did and Irene died two years ago, so I have no way of verifying my information.

Hyde, Manchester, Lancashire
I am researching Gee family ancestors of Hyde, Manchester and Lancashire. The maternal side of my ancestry traces directly back through a grandfather, Frederick Gee of Hyde (b. 4 Sep 1891 - d. Mar 1923), who married Emma Harding on 22 Dec 1912; great-grandfather, Frederick Gee of Haughton, Lancs. (b. Apr 1860 - d. 22 Sep 1929), who married Alice Broadhurst in 1883; and, possibly, a great great-grandfather, Thomas Gee, whom I believe was born in Hyde on 26 Mar 1833 and christened on 1 Jul 1833 in Unitarian Non-Conformist Church, Gee Cross, Hyde.
I have more details for the ancestors named above that I can provide to Gee researchers and other Gees tracing their ancestry. I would appreciate any information about Thomas Gee that would assist me in ascertaining if he was or was not the older Frederick Gee's father. I have come across sources of conflicting information about Thomas's date and place of birth that leave me with much uncertainty about his direct descendants.

I've been able to trace my maternal grandfather's line back to John Gee in 1665, where he appeared as a landowner in Eastchester, Westchester County, NY. I know that he was born in Beverley, Yorkshire County, England. I know that his wife's name was Mary. I thought she was born in England as well - but I just received an email indicating that she may have been born in the US (It's so exciting how much information I've been able to find lately!

Hello.... My long research project has to do with proving that REUBEN GEE is the son of JOSEPH GEE and (?) and the grandson of WILLIAM GEE and CATHERINE DE ROSSELL. Reuben was b. 21 May 1791 in NY (not in 1775 as most searchers have him listed.) Reuben d. 14 Nov. 1834, OH. Reuben marr. Mary Davis in NY c. 1813. Their 1st child was Elizabeth b. 18 Dec. 1814, Colchester, Delaware Co., NY. She was my gr.gr.g'mother. Reuben reportedly traveled with 'brothers' Nicholas and Joshua from Delaware Co.,NY to Trumbull/Mahoning Co., OH about 1825. I have a copy of the family bible showing entries of the above names and dates for Reuben, Mary and their 10 children, beginning with Elizabeth. I am also searching for the children born to the above JOSHUA GEE, b. c1770/72, who marr. c1790, NY to 'Ginne' Van der Bogart. The 'mystery' of Reuben's parentage involves a suggestion that he might possibly have been the son (instead of brother) of the above Joshua Gee. I can't be the only one looking for this info....or am I? Will appreciate hearing from anyone! Eleanor Eckert,
Massachusetts, U.S.A. William Gee; b 1787 in Hamphsire, Massachusetts, married to Mary Polly Pomeroy also born in Mass; his son Gilbert Gee was born in Geauga, Ohio married to Sarah S Scott from Connecticut. They had Cythia Gee who married to Moses Condict. Any info on this family would be great!
Devon, Cornwall, Virginia I am descended from Charles and Hannah Gee of Virginia USA and have spent much time trying to definitively establish the crossover point from England. In about 1860 or so, a collateral ancestor espoused the theory that we were descended from a Thomas Gee of Boston, Mass., USA. The only Thomas Gee in Boston that I could locate was a Peter Gee of Devon, Cornwall. He was the son of John Gee. Ralph Gee, a minister, of Manchester/Gee Cross had a son John who went to Devon. I have been unable to prove whether this was a coincidence or if Ralph's son, John, also a minister was in fact Peter's father. Nor have I proved definitively that Charles Gee of Virginia was the son of Thomas of Boston, son of Peter of Devon. My collateral ancestor was a genealogist herself and I tend to give a great deal of credence to her theory. I feel she must have had some documentation of the fact or she would not have published it in such detail. I am giving you ! all thi s info in the hopes that you may know more than I do! My contact info is garnette@teass.com.
