My Woodhead
family ancestors were from Silkstone,
Almondbury, and lived in the villages of Cumberworth and Kirkburton. In
the mid 1800's, my ancestors left to Stalybridge in Cheshire. Much of
the family remained in Yorkshire. Other surnames in my Woodhead line are Armstead, Bottomley, Gee,
Perkins, Tyne, Houldsworth, Hollingworth and
Taylor.
My Gee
ancestors were originally from France. My ancestors lived in Werneth, Romiley
and Bredbury in Cheshire. There is a village named Gee Cross in Werneth, possibly
named for the Gee family. As years went on, borders in the area changed. At different times, the area was in
the counties of Lancashire and Derbyshire.
Other surnames in my Gee line are Swindells, Shaw, Bardsley, Woodhead,
Kenyon, Linney, Booth, Boon, Higgenbotham, Bolton, Walton, Sykes and
Bridge.
My Beck
ancestors were from the Ukraine. My grandfather was from Proskurow,
Podoldski and my grandmother, Lizzie Temkin, was from Lubitsch. My Becks emigrated to the
United States in the early 1900's, settling in Rhode Island, New York
and Mississippi. Other surnames were Ball, Horenstein, Byk and Bolotow.
My husband's
family were on his mothers' side are the Baldelli and Travaglini's of
Italy. On his
fathers' side, the family name was Knurowsky and Jaworek of Poland. Some
family members
changed Knurowsky to Swartz and settled in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
